“I am a silhouette and the veil of my past keeps me still in the dark.”
Megan Seres is a figurative painter featuring in Out Front. Her work was recently included in the Sydney exhibition All We Can’t See where artists were asked to respond to an individual Nauru File selected from over 2000 documents leaked to the Guardian newspaper in 2016. In 2016 Seres won the $150,000 Doug Moran prize for portraiture.
“Many of my paintings to date have had a Gothic sensibility and are drawn from 18th and 19th century themes and images found in art, poetry, texts and films. Through researching the lives of women and children of early European Settlement I hope to bring to light the commonality of social structures, ownership, oppression, beauty, adornment, memory, displacement, isolation and death.”
