Helen Smith

Perth-based artist Helen Smith is a key figure in contemporary Australian abstraction, known for her large-scale minimalist canvases, and high-key optical compositions referencing culture and social systems. Helen Smith’s practice is influenced by a formal, minimalist view-point with simplicity of form and geometric abstraction generally contributing to the outcome.

A Design and Visual Arts graduate of Curtin University in Perth, she has exhibited widely within Australia and Europe. She is represented in many collections including: National Gallery of Australia, Daimler Collection Berlin, Artbank, Art Gallery of Western Australia, Australian Embassy in Madrid, John Curtin Gallery of Curtin University of Technology, Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery of the University of Western Australia and many Australian and European private collections.
